MITIS Joins Word Factory Competition

Elijah James Blanco and Kwon Hyunjoong (Otto) represented MIT International School in the contest held at the Muntinlupa City Hall earlier today.

Blanco, grade 7, competed against 45 students from other schools in the lower grades / elementary division. On the other hand, Kwon, grade 11, competed against other schools in the upper grades / high school division. Blanco and Kwon managed to score 17 and 28 points, respectively, before being eliminated.

Participants were grouped into separate tables. From each table, the two students with the highest scores advanced to the next round. Students earned a point when they formed a four-letter word. Longer words had corresponding additional points. However, if other contestants within the group had the same word on their list, the word was not counted. Proper nouns were not counted either.

The contest was open to all schools--both private and public--within Muntinlupa. It was part of the city's Youth Month Celebration with the theme, "Kabataang Muntinlupeno'y Sandigan; Pangalagaan ang Kalikasan, Plastik ay patuloy na iwasan, Luntiang Muntinlupa'y ating makakamtan!"
