MITIS celebrates Filipino Month

For the school's first ever Filipino Month celebration, MITIS students performed while teachers dressed for the occasion last September 13, 2013.

The teachers wore Philippine national costumes to celebrate “Araw ng Kasuotang Filipino.” The males wore Barong Tagalog, and the females wore either Baro't Saya or Terno.

Students from different grade levels recited poetry and sang Original Filipino Music (OPM).

The Grade 3 students sang “Ako ay Pilipino.” David Young, Grade 4, recited Jose Rizal's poem “Sa Aking mga Kabata” alongside Robert Jeremiah Rivera, Grade 2, who then translated the poem into English.

Kim Junseo (Mark) and Park Juwon (Tony), Grade 11B, performed the kundiman “Gaano Ko Ikaw Kamahal” with Ms. Sara San Juan as the vocalist. Joshua Cabas, Grade 10, and Kim Jeongwoo (Freddie), Grade 11A, performed “Ang Huling El Bimbo.”

To close the activity, a speech choir composed of all the Filipino students from Grades 4 to 10 performed “Kayumanggi” by Ruben Vega.
